Dewlay - Three Generations of Lancashire Cheesemaking

About Us:

Dewlay  was founded in 1957 by George Kenyon and over the following  50 years earned a reputation for producing some of the very best Lancashire cheese available including the P.D.O. accredited Beacon Fell Traditional Creamy Lancashire and the famous Garstang Blue. You will find our cheese in specialist farm shops and delicatessens, traditional markets and in local and national retailers alike.

In the 1990s, 2nd generation cheesemaker Neil Kenyon relocated the dairy from its original site to a more modern and purpose built facility just outside the historic market town of Garstang in Lancashire. Today, the company is managed by 3rd generation owners Nick & Richard Kenyon and continues to produce Lancashire cheese with the same care and attention and using the same traditional methods their grandfather used in the 1950s.

Cheesemaking is an energy hungry business, and being conscious of the need to become more environmentally aware and rely less on traditional power sources, we commissioned the construction of a 2MW wind turbine at the dairy in late 2010.  Following months of planning & construction, the project was completed in September 2010 and meant that Dewlay was the first dairy in the U.K. to be able to say that it was powered by renewable wind energy on this scale.  You could say we produce the greenest cheese in England!

Our Products:

All of our Lancashire cheese is produced using fresh pasteurised milk sourced directly from dairy farms located within a 6 mile radius of the dairy and made using our own unique starter culture, developed and used by George Kenyon  more than 40 years ago.  Dewlay produce an award winning range of Creamy, Crumbly and Tasty Lancashire, Garstang Blue, Red Leicester, Double Gloucester in traditional wheels and truckles, as well as in modern block formats.

With Dewlay cheese you can be assured it is real Lancashire cheese that's really made in Lancashire!
